The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is North Birmingham Academy’s dedicated area to supporting students in their studies and enjoyment of reading; reflecting the importance we place on our specialism in literacy. The LRC is open to students every break-time and lunchtime and is also available for use after school until 4.00pm; when homework club takes place.
The Learning Resource Centre stocks a wide range of materials to appeal to every student at the academy. We have a constantly updated library of books including fiction, novels, biographies and non-fiction, in order to support the learning of all students and cater to all reading abilities. This range of genres is also used to encourage our students to try something new and stretch their reading abilities. Students are able to borrow a maximum of 3 resources for the duration of 2 weeks. There is the possibility for books to be renewed if they are required for a longer period of time. The LRC also hosts an impressive ICT suite with internet access for research and work purposes.
There is also the opportunity for students to apply for the position of ‘Library Monitor’, where they will train to become a student librarian. This training programme runs at intervals throughout the year, and any student can apply for this post.
