We have specialisms in English and the Arts, which support our drive for excellence and allows NBA to deliver high quality innovative learning opportunities for all our students. These particular specialisms broaden our curriculum and provide unique educational opportunities to our students.
What the specialisms means to the academy
Innovative Literacy Scheme
Our specialisms in English is a priority for the Academy and we have a continued focus on challenging students to increase their Literacy skills as we believe these are crucial to their future education and employment goals. The English Department have developed innovative teaching methods and a range of high quality, extra-curricular activities for students of all abilities. These activities include working with professional writers and poets to develop and stretch our students. Our specialism in English also gives students opportunities to work as writers and showcase their work as we run several extra-curricular programmes and workshops.
The Academy recruits students in Years 9 and 10 as Literacy Specialists. These student have been carefully selected and participate in a training course to further expand their understanding of literacy. Following this training, these students are then given the responsibility to plan and resource activities to be used in lessons, whilst also being made available for staff to book, allowing their expertise to influence teaching methods.
