Academy Performance Auditions
Last Tuesday the Performing Arts department held auditions for the annual academy production, which this year is an adaptation of Sister Act 2. The turnout was overwhelming with over 100 students singing, dancing and acting to win a part in the show, many of whom were our very new year 7’s and there were even year 11’s auditioning for the first time.
Students had to demonstrate talent in all three areas of the performing arts, with some coming back the following day for solo singing parts. The atmosphere in the academy was electric, with music booming from the theatre for the dancers, a pitch perfect ‘Joyful Joyful’ coming from the music room and a drama room full of students reacting to each other as they delivered lines from the show with faultless characterisation.
The Performing Arts staff had such a difficult time selecting their cast as the standard was so high, but 65 lucky individuals made the cut with students from every year group involved. Whitney Wright in Year 12 will play ‘Deloris’, with De-avian Daley, Shannon Roberts and Bethany Shaw playing her fellow nuns. The kids from the classroom will be led by Jamie-lee Lee Grant as ‘Rita’, backed up by Laila Mafemba, Darius Spooner-Cowan and Reece Campbell.
Rehearsals have started and will continue on Mondays and Tuesdays after school until nearer the show. The rehearsal schedule for students will be displayed in the attendance office window every week, so please make sure you check to see if you are needed.
With this talented cast, you’ll be clapping and singing along all night, so make sure you don’t miss out and get your tickets to watch this show!
