Match Report, Yr8 Birmingham Cup
The Year 8 Football team produced a miraculous fightback to progress into the second round of the Birmingham Schools Cup yesterday evening.
After dominating for most of the first half, NBA went into half time trailing 1-0 after some slack defending from a corner allowed the Parkhall attacker a free header inside the 6 yard box, which he placed beyond the keeper and into the top corner.
After stern words at half time by manager Mr Conibere, NBA got themselves back on level terms almost immediately, Deago Martin scoring from 25 yards into the top corner. As the half continued, Parkhall had a good spell of pressure, resulting in them scoring two quick goals, the second of which was a 20 yard volleyed own goal from Yakem Bereket.
Trailing 3-1, NBA increased their work rate, and began to dominate again. Two well taken goals from Mohamed Sajad, and a delightful finish from Deago Martin again, saw NBA roar back to lead 4-3, before Sajad completed his hat-trick with another well taken goal.
The game however was not over, when some more poor defending saw Parkhall awarded a controversial penalty, which the referee awarded "even though completely out of position" (quote from NBA manager, Mr Conibere). This was converted by Parkhall, but NBA had done enough to take the victory, a fine 5-4 win.
Some excellent performances all round, with captain Deago Martin taking the Man of the Match award.
