As part of NBA’s focus on being a welcoming hub for the wider community, we are committed to having strong partnerships with all local primary schools to ensure the smoothest transition possible for all Year 6 pupil’s moving to the academy. To support this, the Academy holds regular events at primary schools to help children understand the process of moving on from Primary school and help to prepare them for how their experiences may differ.
THE ACADEMY HOST A WIDE RANGE OF EVENTS TO BROADEN THE CURRICULUM SUCH AS:
DISCOVER SCIENCE WEEK
During discover science week primary school pupils have access the Academy's science labs to take part in science lessons and projects. This experience shows pupils the variety of science and extends their knowledge of the subject.
ARTS AT WORK WEEK
A full week of Drama, Music, Dance exhibitions and workshops which showcase the talent and creativity of our Academy community and the strengths of our Arts specialism. Throughout the week all lessons have a strong 'creativity' theme, which encourages Academy students and primary school pupils to develop their artistic and creative flair.
Pupils are able to take part in a range of hands-on workshops which gives them real life experience of technology, for example using the Academy's motor vehicle maintenance workshop.
Pupils take part in master classes coached by our specialist Music and Drama staff. Their work culminates in a slot at the Academy's annual Christmas Extravaganza where primary school pupils take to the stage in front of a large audience.
Many of our Year 8 students receive training to become mentors in the Local Authority's online transition project. This specific programme allows our mentors and prospect pupils to get together and discuss any queries or questions Year 6 pupils have about life at the Academy.
